Jelena joined ICMPD’s Research Unit in 2018 as Programme Assistant, supporting the implementation of all Research Unit projects and organising events, including the Vienna Migration Conference. Since 2022 she has been an Associate Researcher, carrying out qualitative research in the areas of integration, social cohesion, diasporas and development, and local migration governance. Prior to that, she worked as an architect for 7 years in different offices in Vienna, primarily on the development of Quartier Belvedere.

Research projects she contributed to include ECONDIAS, on diaspora’s contributions to the socio-economic development of the Western Balkans, INTOP, on the integration experiences of the Chechen community in Austria, and LOCALIZE, on the social realities of highly diverse urban neighborhoods in Austria. Jelena is fluent in German, English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. She holds Master´s degrees in Development Studies from the University of Vienna and Architecture from the Technical University of Vienna.
