Marco Mogiani is a Researcher at ICMPD and lecturer at the Department of Development Studies of the University of Vienna. His current research intersects border, migration, and citizenship studies, focusing on irregular migration, migration management in Europe, migration aspirations and decision-making processes. His focus areas include Southern Europe (Greece and Italy in particular) as well as relevant countries in the Silk Routes region, such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq. In 2019, he obtained his PhD in Development Studies from SOAS, University of London. Drawing from a nine-month fieldwork among migrants’ informal settlements in Patras (Greece), his thesis looked at borders as meeting points of different processes, including neoliberal restructuring, securitization measures, and migrants’ resistance. Prior to joining ICMPD, he was University Assistant at the Department of Didactics of Citizenship Education of the University of Vienna.
