Education: holds a university degree in African Studies with a focus on Social, Gender and Development Studies at University of Vienna and University of Naples. Postgraduate Program at the International Women‘s University "Technology and Culture", Hanover.
Relevant experience and expertise: At ICMPD she has coordinated and worked in several EU and national funded projects in the area of migration and integration. She has worked on several comparative studies and produced several publications in the areas of immigration- and antidiscrimination policies, migration statistics, irregular migration, human smuggling and human trafficking. In the area of integration she has worked on the „Comparative Study on Anti-Discrimination Legislation“ commissioned by EUMC/FRA, the “integrationsportal.at” an information website serving as medium for experts working in the area and for recognized refugees, asylum seekers and migrants; Together with Albert Kraler she also coordinated the research project Civic Stratification, Gender and Family Migration Policies in Europe: a project funded under the NODE-Funding program of Austrian Ministry of Science and Research.
Veronika Bilger is a member of the Network of Excellence International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE), funded by the EC under the 6 Framework Programme; since 2005 lecturer at the University of Vienna; member of the editorial board of the Viennese Journal of Critical African Studies and trained teacher for German as a Second Language/alphabetization.
