Associate Research Officer

Education: studied Political Science at the University of Bucharest and Universidad Complutense of Madrid, with a focus on International Relations and Development.  Postgraduate Programme and Master in International Studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, with an interdisciplinary curriculum in international and European law/economics/politics/history.

Relevant experience and expertise: Alina Cibea has worked in international as well as national and non-governmental environments, previous work placements including the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, the UNHCR OSCE Liaison Office, the Council of Europe and the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights. Her experience lies with cross-sectoral applied research and policy analysis on a variety of topics, though she has also been occasionally involved in project development and project management at an operational level.

At ICMPD she has been working mainly on comparative studies and policy papers in the areas of migration, integration, non-discrimination and equal opportunities, social inclusion, family migration, trafficking in human beings, and irregular migration at the national, EU and international level. She is currently involved in the study on the fundamental rights situation of irregular migrants in the EU commissioned by the FRA (FRIM), the development of the pilot project for the Rapid Asylum Inflow Alert System (RAIAS) aimed at providing timely analysis on asylum related flows to the ICMPD Member States, as well as in a number of different policy and research papers on an ad-hoc basis.

Research interests: Migration policy, migration and development, integration, anti-discrimination, equal opportunities, social inclusion, fundamental rights, refugees and asylum seekers, irregular migration, trafficking in human beings.
