Research Officer
Education: Maren Borkert holds a Doctorate in Sociology with a focus on migration (policies) and interethnic relations at the Universities of Bamberg (DE) and Padova (IT) and a diploma in Romanistic (Italianistic, Hispanistic and Sociology) at the Universities of Bamberg and Urbino (IT). She is a former Marie-Curie-Fellow and attended the European Ph.D. Program on ‘Migration, Diversity, Identities’ under the patronage of the European Commission and HumanitarianNet.
Relevant experience and expertise: Maren Borkert since October 2008 works as a research officer at ICMPD where she coordinates and works in several EU funded projects in the area of migration, development and integration. She has worked on comparative studies and indicators for best practices and has edited several publications, among those ‘The Local Dimension of Migration Policies’ and ‘Qualitative Migration Research in Contemporary Europe’. In the area integration and social inclusion she conducted research on the ‘Integration and Access to Social Rights of Migrants: The Contribution of Local and Regional Authorities’ on behalf of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (EUROFOUND) and investigated ‘Identity and Social Inclusion of Young Migrants and Women with Migrant Background in Germany – Evidence on Causalities and Policy Implications’ on behalf of the General Directorate ‘Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities’.
Maren Borkert is member of the European Network of Excellence on International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE), funded by the EC under the 6th Framework Program; until 2008 lecturer at the University of Bamberg; she was cluster assistant of IMISCOE Cluster C9 on the multilevel governance of immigration and immigrant policies; and a co-founder of the international non–profit organization HERMES, a reunion of early-stage researchers on migration and ethnicity studies.
