Education: degree in Political Science (major) and African Studies (minor) at the University of Vienna and at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London.
Relevant experience and expertise: At ICMPD Albert Kraler was involved in several international research projects on migration, including the FP5 project “Comparing National Data Sources in the Field of Migration and Integration” (COMPSTAT), the EUMC funded project “Discrimination in Employment”, and the FP6 projects “Towards Harmonized European Statistics on Migration” (THESIM) and “Civic Participation of Migrants” (POLITIS)”. From October 2003 to March 2004 he was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Centre for Migration Research at the University of Sussex (UK). Between September 2005 and June 2006, he held a fellowship at the Department of Political Science, University of Vienna. Between 2006 and 2008 he coordinated the project “Civic stratification, gender and family migration policies in Europe” (jointly with Veronika Bilger) , a project funded by the Austrian Ministry of Science. He is the coordinator of the FP6 project “Promoting Comparative Quantitative Research in the Field of Migration and Integration” (PROMINSTAT, 2007-2010) and the project "Fundamental Rights Situation of Irregular Immigrants in the EU" (FRIM), commissioned by the Fundamental Rights Agency. Albert is a member of the EU funded Network of Excellence on International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE) and member of the IMISCOE Editorial Board. Since 2001 he is a member of the editorial board of the Vienna Journal of African Studies. He also teaches Political Science and International Development at the University of Vienna as an associate lecturer.
Research interests: Migration policy, migration statistics, forced migration, and citizenship.
